Would you believe it, five years ago on March 23, 2010, President Barack Hussein Obama signed the Affordable Care Act, popularly labeled ObamaCare, into law!! And don’t forget, the ACA passed with input from dozens of special interest lobbies and without a single Republican vote in Congress!
Many of the health care law’s provisions took effect in 2013 following the 2012 elections (after over 22 extra-Constitutional exemptions and delays given by the President), and Americans have since been experiencing the effects of the law—with what we consider exceptionally bad consequences for American prosperity and the success of small businesses nationwide.
Millions learned they were not able to keep their original insurance plans or doctors and more than 7.7 million people received subsidies from the Federal exchange, many who are just now learning they were incorrectly added or overpaid. They are NOT happy with their income tax returns this year because of gross governmental mishandling of the rollout and subsequent mismanagement in the awarding of subsidies.
So, we thought it only appropriate that we examine some of the biggest claims made about ObamaCare five years later:
- IF YOU LIKE YOUR PLAN, YOU CAN KEEP YOUR PLAN!!
o Millions of Americans, it is estimated as high as 42 million+ lost their health insurance plans due to the Affordable Care Act.
- IF YOU LIKE YOUR DOCTOR, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP YOUR DOCTOR, PERIOD!!
o Plans offered under the Affordable Care Act have limited provider networks, making it difficult if not impossible for consumers to keep their original doctors without paying much more than before the ACA went into effect.
- SUBSIDIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR AMERICANS ON BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL EXCHANGES WHO QUALIFY FOR THEM!!
o HHS estimates that currently 7.7 million Americans received subsidies through the Federal exchange, but many States refused to comply with the Law’s exchange system. Whether recipients are able to continue to do so depends upon the US Supreme Court, who will rule on the case regarding State exchanges and subsidies in King v. Burwell, to be adjudicated this summer.
- THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT WILL COVER EVERY AMERICAN!!
o According to the latest report from the Congressional Budget Office, projections estimate that about 25 million people will remain uninsured in 2025 and up to 7 million fewer people will have employer-based coverage. That adds up to 32 million workers still not covered or adequately covered 10 years from now without huge expense to the policy holder.
Not only do these facts belie the whole reason originally given for government overreach in extending federal control of over what represents 1/6th of our economy? But originally, only 40 million+ Americans were without insurance. The ACA not only has severely damaged the economic recovery? It hasn’t delivered on ANY of its promises and, in fact, is costing American workers millions of dollars in wages and hours in employer attempts to comply with the mandates.
Celebrate? I say it’s time for a wake!!
